  This is a very fine and very old wakizashi. Mumei Ubu nakago; that has been cleaned in the past; but old rust still remains around the menuki ana. This blade was polished by me and a new maple tsuka was made. original silver foil habaki. Very old period matching iron fuchi and kashira, bird theme. Also a very ornate iron tsuba with gold and silver zogan; also period. New ho wood saya unfinished. Nice Namikawa same, with meiji menuki. Cotton ito wrap as whomever finishes the saya will want to match their ito.<br />\r\noverall length is 17 inches with a 13 inch nagasa; thinblade per the period and a completely hardened mune; rare... Itame Midare hamon, Itame Masame mix hada. No kizu or other flaws, minor loose grain, very minor. 3 eigths sori and the Shobu zukuri shape. This blade has not been cut down. This is a 400 to 550 year old blade. Mumei without signature. Great starter blade for any collection.
